Passion

Director Brian De Palma returns to the sleek, sly and seductively sinister territory of his earlier suspense hits like Dressed to Kill and Body Double with an erotic corporate thriller fueled by sex, ambition, image, envy and the dark, murderous side of Passion. In this diabolically tricky, darkly comic tale of female competition gone horribly wrong (adapted from French filmmaker Alain Corneau’s 2010 film Love Crime), Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) stars as the shy, unassuming assistant of an unscrupulous advertising executive (Rachel McAdams, Midnight In Paris) who steals her ideas and acts as if it’s all in good sport. Things soon take a turn for the worse when the assistant decides she’s had enough of living in her boss’s shadow, kicking off a cat-and-mouse game to rise up the ranks of the multinational corporation – a game that is about to literally turn cutthroat. Filled with twists, turns and shocking surprises, Passion deploys all of the classic De Palma trademarks with coolly calculated abandon: a brilliant use of split screen; a confusion of identity; dreams within dreams; and shoes to die for.
