The New York Film Critics Series screening for January will feature a special pre-release preview of the new comedy At Middleton, featuring a captured live Q&A with the film’s director Adam Rogers and stars Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) and Andy Garcia (Ocean’s 11). These two brilliant actors, best known for heavy dramatic roles, give themselves over to a delightful comedy romp, and they have a ball. Farmiga and Garcia play strangers who meet while escorting their teen children to campus-tour day at a mythical college named Middleton. (Shot at Gonzaga University and Washington State University, the film is in part a hilarious parody of American college life.) Farmiga has performed essential roles in a dozen great films from Up in the Air to Down to the Bone. Here, she unleashes her comedic skills as Edith, a shockingly honest character who is so far out at the end of her rope that she can’t take anything seriously. Garcia, in spectacles and bow tie, plays George, a hyper-fastidious, self-controlled heart surgeon. Naturally, these two opposites clash immediately. The mismatched pair quickly ditch the tour and over a series of comedic escapades find themselves falling helplessly and hopelessly in love. Also starring Spencer Lofranco, Tom Skerritt, and Peter Riegert, At Middleton is written and directed by Adam Rodgers and produced by Andy Garcia, Glenn German, and Sig Libowitz.
